Task 1 : Exercise 1&2
LECTURES
Week 1: we need to join the Facebook group, the lecturer also inform us
that most of the information were posted in the Facebook group, after joined
the lecturer starting to explain the module on the weeks going forward.
Besides that, we start to create our e-portfolios on blogger, we need to post
our work there and the lecture will check our work and give some feedback too.
We also need to watch the YouTube videos from the YouTube for creating the
e-portfolio. Therefore, we also need to download the 10 typefaces from the
Facebook group. Next, the lecture started given the first exercise, that we
need to compose and express the meaning of the words, and we need to choose 4
different words that we discuss in the class. Lastly, we need to sketch it and
show in the class in week 2.
Week 2: In week 2, Mr check our sketches and give feedback. Next, we
need to start draw using adobe illustrator.
Week 3: Mr. Vinod check our digitisation and give some
feedback. After checked finish, we need to do the animation of a word that we
chose by our own. We need to using adobe illustrator and do the art board for
the script of the animation and save it
( File > Export As > / Use Artboard & All > Format:
JPEG > Export > Colour Model: RGB > Ok ). Next, we finish our script we need to use photoshops and in insert the
script that we did.
( File > Scripts > Load Files into stack > Browse and look for the
locate folder > Select Create Frame Animation > Click It ).
Duplicate the particular timeline and click the visible setting in order to
show what you want to show at the particular timeline. Lastly, we need to
export
(File > Export > Save for Web > Select Present: GIF 128 Dithered
> Save It).
Week 4: Mr. Vinod check our animation that we did last week, and give
some feedback. After that, we need to start a new exercise which is formatting
text. We need to download the text that Mr. Vinod had posted in the Facebook.
We need to use InDesign for this exercise, first we need to open a file that
must be
A4 size (210mm x 297mm), Column gutter 5mm. Next we need to copy and paste the text that we had downloaded form the
Facebook and use the 10 font that Mr. Vinod given > change the
font size 11pt. Next we need to go
(Layout > Margins and Column > Top 12.7mm, Bottom 100mm, Column: 4,
Gutter 5mm > Ok).
(Option < > can move the words to left or right)
Then we have 4 column and need to move the headline to a side. Next we need to
go InDesign which is at the left of the top corner and >
Preferences > Kerning And Tracking 5mm > Ok
Therefore, we can see a red+ and it will transfer the text to another side.
Next we need go to the
(Preferences > Start 12.7mm > Relative to: Top of page > Increment
Every 11pt > View Threshold: 50% > Ok). Besides, We need to go (View > Grid & Guides > / Hide Baseline Grid.)* need press command+ then only can see the line.
INSTRUCTIONS
TASK 1 :
Exercises 1 - Type Expression
For exercise 1, we were given some word that we had discuss in the class. Then
we need to choose 4 word to create a type expression using those words that I
had choose. We need to express the meaning of the words by only using letter
forms. Therefore, the words that I chose are tired, freeze, sticky, and pain.
All ideas are required to refer to the 10 typefaces given by the lecturer in
the class.

Final digitisation that I had change the word 'PAIN' that it is more
suitable to the word. Figure 2.1 is the final digital sketch exploration
of four words which are sticky, freeze, pain and tired by using Adobe
Illustrator.

I only have 4 script for this animation and I had made it the cracking
effect of the word ' FREEZE ' .

Exercise 2: - Formatting Text
In exercise 2, we were tasked to construct a text layout that we can
learn about the word spacing, leading, paragraph spacing, alignment, and
others skills. we will need to use the 10 typefaces that the lecture
gives us, which are Bembo Std, ITC Garamond Std, Janson Text Lt Std,
Adobe Caslon Pro, ITC New Baskerville Std, Bodoni Std, Serif Std, Futura
Std, Gall Sans and University Lt Std. These exercise need to use
A4 size paper.

We need to use the 10 typefaces to do kerning by using our name for an
example.

FEEDBACK
Week 2
Specific feedback: The designs of tired are not actually utilise the
meaning of the word, while the fourth design was more likely related to
the meaning and I chose that for the task. Next, is the design of freeze
the third design for the freeze was a bit illustrative and the second
design was be chosen. Therefore, is the design of sticky, the first design
for sticky was chose it more related to the meaning of the word. Lastly is
the design of pain, the design for pain were not so utilise the meaning of
pain.
General feedback : The word must be able to express by using the 10
typefaces. The pain word that use with the bone was too illustrative and it not among in the 10 typefaces.
Week 3
Specific feedback: My sketches are corrected by following the feedback that lecture gave
in the class last week. This week my sketches was draw by using adobe
illustrator and my all sketches are acceptable except 'pain' the
design was still not make sense.
General feedback: need to redo the word the word 'pain'.
Week 4
Specific feedback : My gif of the word ' freeze ' didn't make any sense
and need to redo it.
General feedback : Freeze word can be gather together and make it have
cracking effect.
Week 5
Specific feedback : My text is too upward and need to move separate the
image and headline and text.
General feedback: Can put the image on the top and become bigger and the
headline can put at the bottom of the image and the paragraph can
separate left and right at the bottom of the headline.
REFLECTIONS
Experience
In this class I feel this is very helpful for me about typography and I
had learn many things form this class such ask typefaces, animations, and
formatting text. Next, I also experience the adobe illustrator and
photoshop. But I'm not so familiar with all those tools. I feel formatting
is the most fun among typefaces and animations.
Observation
This class was quite fun the formatting text was fun and we had learn how
to defines the aesthetic and also what makes a text comfortable to read
and it was fun.
Findings
In this 5 weeks I feel typography is not all about words only it have more
to learn and know the rules of typography.
