LECTURES

We were introduced to the module by our lecture. I had learn that some of the elements of the design principles there are line, shape, form, size, space, colour, value, and texture. Next, we also start to work for our task 1, we need to choose 5 design principle that among the 8 design principle that the lecture provide. The 8 design principle that lecture provide are contrast, gestalt theory, emphasis, balance, repetition, movement, harmony&unity, symbol, and word and image. Hence, I had chose are contrast, repetition, emphasis, word and image and harmony and unity.

EXERCISE

1. Contrast

Contrast is one of the main principles of art defined by art historians and critics. It is a strategy used    by an artist to break up a work of art, and alter or even shatter its unity by inserting variation. In many ways, contrast is the opposite of the element of unity, in that it commands the viewer's attention by sheer force of its differences.

My design is showing that the background is black, and the flower is more lighter colours which is the object in the image especially white colour so that it have the contrast of the colour which are black and white.

2. Repetition

Repetition could make a work of design seem active. The repetition of element of design creates rhythm and pattern within the work. Variety is essential to keep rhythms exciting and active, and to avoid monotony. Peter increase visual excitement by enriching surface interest.

3. Emphasis

Emphasis is used to attract a viewer's attention to the focal, point, or main subject, of an artwork. For example, in a portrait the artist usually wants you to see the subject's face first, so the artist will use colour, contrast, and placement to direct where your eye is attracted.

In this design is shows that it emphasis the yellow moon that behind the big tree. The big tree that I just sketch it and didn't put any colours on, so that it is more easy and more clearly to shows that the moon was be emphasised.

4. Word and Image

Harmony involves the selection of elements that share a common trait. Besides that, harmony can becomes monotony without variety. Next, harmony is the sense that all of the elements of your design fit together. There may fit the same theme, aesthetic style pr mood.

In this image I had used Mickey Mouse to be the image and I is one body the split out 2 faces that shows that it is 2 characters in one body, and I didn't put on any colours on it. Therefore the word that I put is 'MICKEY' and the colour used is maroon it shows that look more old school hence Mickey was a old cartoon.

5. Harmony and unity

Imagery is a vital part of design, be it print or digital. Users and viewers are able to relate to a concept or a brand if the right images are used in a work of design. It id therefore important to use suitable and relevant images when designing.

In this image is shows that it is a river and beside the river is surrounding with pink roses and the river was with a very blue colour and it shows very peaceful. I also sketch a boat on the river and it is floating, so the water of the river have the movement.

Feedback

Week 2: In this week I only design 2 principles which are contrast and movement. The first design is contrast, it need to change to colour of the flower into more white. Besides, the second is the design of movement which I need to draw more that can show more movement.

Week 3: In this week I design 2 more principles which are emphasis and word and image, total is 4 design in the week. Therefore, the design of the emphasis of the moon which I need to put it bigger so that it more clearly that show is emphasis. Next, the design of the word and image need to show more sketches and visual references.

Week 4: In the week I total design 5 principles which are contrast, movement, emphasis, word and image and harmony and unity. the design of harmony and unity need to use the first sketches but need to improve more to be nicer, the second image is too strong colours.
