LECTURES
Visual analysis is a method of understanding design that focuses on the visual
elements and principles. In its strictest definition - a description and
explanation of visual structure for its own sake. Yet the purpose of visual
analysis can also recognise the choices that a designer made in creating the
design, as well as to better understand how the formal properties of a design
communicate ideas, content, or meaning. Visual analysis is a critical part of
visual literacy, a skill that helps people read and critically interpret
images, whether in a museum, on social media, in entertainment, advertising,
or the news. As citizens of the 21st century, we are constantly confronted
with visual media. Practising visual analysis sharpens critical judgement
skills and helps people seek out answers instead of passively receiving
information.
Three phases of visual analysis
Phase 1: Observation
Phase 2: Analysis
Phase 3: Interpretation
Phase 1: OBSERVATION
- Observation means closely looking at and identifying the visual
elements of a design, trying to describe them carefully and accurately in you
own words. Do not read beforehand about the design at all.
- The observation phase is about looking, thinking, and finding good language
to communicate what you notice.
Phase 2: ANALYSIS
- Analysis requires you to think about your observations and try to make
statements about the work based on the evidence of your observations.
- Think about how the specific visual elements that you're identified combine
together to create a whole, and what effect that whole has on the viewer.
- How your eye is led through the work and why? Apply the Design Principles
Knowledge you have learnt throughout these weeks.
Phase 3: INTERPRETATION
- In the final phase, your observation, description, and analysis of the work
are fused with facts about the design work (and in some cases the designer)
and historical context that you find in trustworthy published sources.
- What is the meaning of the design? What was the purpose fir it to be
created?

Explanation
This poster is the one caught my eyes, I found it from Pinterest. This
poster was very meaningful for public the subtitle said "Join friends of the
earth and help serve the planet before its to late!" it information is for
everyone that remind us that if not help serve the beautiful earth the
beautiful earth will gone slowly.
Phase 1: OBSERVATION
This design work is a graphic design. As for visual elements, the main
colours obverse are white, black brown, and blue. Overall is a clean design.
There are some creative idea that the earth are representing the ice cream
and it melted the earth. The background was using a plain white background.
There are also putting the title of this poster "Melting Away" in the bottom
middle of the earth ice cream and the sub topic is under the title. The
earth ice cream was at the centre, an image is featured.
Phase 2: ANALYSIS
This design is emphasis. The emphasis is on the central image - the
earth - have a most bright colour in the poster. It is on the ice cream corn
and it shows balance the earth and the ice cream corn was separate
into half and although the earth was melting along the ice cream corn. There
is also unity in the overall composition as the main object are the
earth. Next, is the movement it shows that the earth
melting down the ice cream corn.
Please 3: INTERPRETATION
The earth that melting on the ice cream corn it show us that the earth that we
still don't take care and love, it will slowly melt and the beautiful world
will gone. The subtitle "join friend of the earth and help save the planet
before its too late." it means this poster ask public to help save the earth
before it become terrible, dirty and ugly.
DYSIGN PROCESS & IDEA EXPLORATION
Visual references
I thinking to design an artwork like our hand are holding the earth that
shows that everyone must help saving our earth, then world will become
beautiful and clean.

My sketches
This is my sketches that my idea is by using our hand to save the earth and
the plant, so that the earth have many green plant and it will be beautiful.
Everyone help plant a green plant in the house, world will be more beautiful
and have a clean and fresh air. I had emphasis the plant in the hand, and
the other I use dark colour to help emphasis the plant.

FINAL
FEEDBACK
Week 11
Specific Feedback: The phases 1&2 are okay and need to go on with phase 3 and some sketches.
General Feedback: Move on to phase 3 and sketches.
Specific Feedback: The poster was too dark and it doesn't show out the brightness that means like have hope or we are caring then earth.
General Feedback: Have more sketches next week, the sketches can be more brightly and feel more hope.
Week 13
Specific Feedback: Sketches 4 can be use but need to be more creative maybe can use the branches to surrounding the heart shape and think of more key colours.
General Feedback: Next week need to be improve by using the sketch 4
REFLECTIONS
FEEDBACK: In this class I feel this is very helpful for me about design principles and I had learn many things and knowledge form this class. We have to show out some knowledges that we have learn in the class before.
OBSERVATIONS: This class was quite fun we can draw our art work of the image that we found and we need to do the 3 phases and in this final task need to write more things compare to task before.
FINDINGS: In this few weeks I feel design principles is not all about drawing only it have more to learn and know the rules of design principles and how we can do a better artwork.
